  • Highland Springs holds off Norview in 5A state semis

Highland Springs High wide receiver and defensive back Chris Thaxton promised his mother, Angie, before she died last month that he and his teammates would win another state football championship.

They had to work hard for it, but the reigning 5A state champion Springers are in position to fulfill that promise after defeating visiting Norview of Norfolk 28-25 in Saturday afternoon’s semifinal.

The Springers, 13-1 and winners of 12 consecutive games, face Stone Bridge (12-2) in next week’s final in Hampton. It is a rematch of last year’s title game.

  • Overview

On behalf of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff of Highland Springs Football Program I want to invite each parent, alumni, and family member to join our "Football Boosters". The potential funds generated by this organization will ensure that Highland Springs will remain one of the states premiere football programs. In the first two years of its inception, our former Touchdown Club raised over $60, 000 and a major campaign started that led to the recent renovations to our field house. There is much more work to be done! Please continue your donations, fundraising effort and calls, emails and letters to the school board and other officials!

Pleaae consider becoming an active member for 2011-2012 and help with planned projects that will benefit our football players. I trust we and/or our website will provide you with the facts that you need to know about membership, benefits, assistance to our players, and organizational deadlines and timetables.

If you do find that you have questions, please feel free to contact me or one of our coordinators. Again, thank you for all you do in support of the Highland Springs Football Team!

    Sincerely,

    Loren Johnson

    Head Football Coach
